A Commencement Present

May you breathe
	and smell the fragrance of each new day;
May you walk
	and stride in joy every step of the way.

May you listen
	and hear the music Nature plays for you;
May you learn
	and teach great wisdom and your truth.

May you talk
	and speak only from your heart;
May you be silent
	and reject flatteries that all sound so smart,
	but accept insults that hold some truth in part.

May you sleep
	and dream up what reality has not yet congealed;
May you awaken
	and discern the paths faintly revealed,
	along with the dangers dimly concealed.

May you drink
	and swallow the bitterness life's lessons
        at times entail;
May you eat
	and devour the wonders life's mysteries
        in time unveil.

May you hate
	and end all wars that pain us
        so grievously and senselessly;
May you love and be loved,
        as one and with all,
	ever so entirely and endlessly.
